The dream cottage for carp enthusiasts
Carp Fishing Cottage
Carp fishing is more than a hobby: it demands patience, watercraft and suitable accommodation. At Gîte du Martin Pêcheur, everything is designed for carp anglers. The private pontoon lets you set bivvy and rod pod on the Lot, night fishing is allowed, and the waters at Aiguillon hold a remarkable carp population in size and density. Powerful commons, copper-scaled mirrors and rare leather carp inhabit the spots reachable from our property.
The Lot at Aiguillon has an ideal profile for carp fishing. Moderate flow and varied bottoms—gravel, dense weed beds and sand plateaux—create a mosaic of habitats for feeding and resting cyprinids. Fishing pressure on this stretch has stayed moderate, encouraging fish of good size. Lot carp are known for their fight in the current, giving memorable battles to anglers with the right tackle.

The Lot at Aiguillon: an overlooked carp paradise
While most French carp anglers focus on large public lakes and private stillwaters, rivers like the Lot offer a radically different experience. River carp means working with flow, adapting rigs, reading the water for holding areas and playing the seasons. The Lot at Aiguillon offers that technical richness in a preserved natural setting. Shallow gravel bars in summer become autumn transit spots; spring weed beds give way to winter migration corridors. Every session is different; every visit brings new insight into Lot carp behaviour.
Techniques and strategies suited to the Lot
River carp demands a specific approach. On the Lot, rigs must withstand flow while staying discreet enough for wary fish. Boilie remains the top bait, especially effective on long sessions with steady baiting. Method feeder is devastating on shallow spots and transitions between gravel and weed. Zig rig produces surprising results in summer when carp move up to feed in the surface weed. Stalking is possible from certain pontoon spots, offering pure adrenaline when you spot a carp feeding a few metres away. Hamid, your host, can advise on the most effective strategies for current conditions.
A cottage built for carp angler comfort
Carp anglers have specific needs that our cottage was designed to meet. The private pontoon has room for 2 to 3 rod pods side by side, a flat bivvy area and power for alarms and bait boat. Night fishing is allowed on our stretch of the Lot, enabling 24- to 72-hour sessions without interruption. Between sessions, the 140 m² cottage offers welcome comfort: hot shower, equipped kitchen for solid meals, comfortable bedrooms to recover after a night of bites. The enclosed garden is ideal for storing gear safely, and private parking can accommodate vehicles with trailers.

Why choose our lodge?
Our cottage is one of the few places in France that combines direct access to a first-category river for carp with a private pontoon set up for long sessions. Visiting carp anglers value the absolute peace of the site, the quality of swims reachable without a car and a host-angler who can point them to the most productive tactics. Feedback is unanimous: the balance between cottage comfort, fishing quality and price (from 650 euros per week) is outstanding.
Hamid, your host, has fished the Lot regularly for years. He knows when carp are active, which swims work at different water levels and which baits work season by season. His advice, given freely, has helped many carp anglers to memorable sessions. He can also point you to other carp waters in the department, such as Lake Salabert or Garonne stretches, to vary your sport.
“We stayed with Hamid and Bérangère for a carp fishing trip on the Lot! It was a wonderful stay in the cottage. Our children were thrilled, the fishing was very productive and Hamid and Bérangère are simply exceptional!”

FAQ | Carp Fishing Cottage
What size of carp can you expect on the Lot?
The Lot at Aiguillon holds large carp, with fish over 25 kg. Commons give great fights in the Lot’s current.
Can you run 48- or 72-hour sessions?
Yes, night fishing is allowed on our stretch of the Lot. The pontoon is set up for long sessions with bivvy space, rod pod and power sockets. You can set your bivouac by the water for as long as you wish.
Is catch-and-release practised?
We practise and strongly encourage catch-and-release for all carp. An unhooking mat and a suitable landing net are strongly recommended.
What is the best season for carp on the Lot?
Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) are the most productive. Summer offers good surface sessions (zig rig, floater). Winter is quieter but sometimes rewards patient anglers with very fine fish.
Can you use a bait boat?
Yes, bait boats are allowed on the Lot. The pontoon sockets let you recharge your bait boat between sessions. The moderate flow at Aiguillon makes bait boat use comfortable.
