Riverside fishing cottage on the Lot
Riverside Fishing Cottage
Dreaming of a riverside fishing cottage? Staying where the river runs a few metres away means waking to the sound of water, casting your first lines before breakfast and living fishing in total immersion. At Gîte du Martin Pêcheur, the Lot runs along the property. No road to cross, no car needed: you reach the water through the garden. It is this absolute proximity to the river that makes the difference and turns a simple river fishing cottage into a truly immersive experience.
The Lot at Aiguillon is a lowland river with moderate flow, clear and fish-rich water. Natural banks alternate between floodplain meadows, dense riparian woodland and gravel beaches, offering a diversity of aquatic habitats for every species. From our private pontoon you reach varied fishing spots without leaving the property: surface weed beds for carp in summer, deep pools for catfish, wooded margins for ambush predators. The river changes with the seasons, and each period brings its share of surprises and opportunities.

The unique advantage of direct river access
What fundamentally sets a riverside fishing cottage apart from standard accommodation is the ability to fish at any time with no logistical hassle. At dawn, when carp move up to feed in the weed beds, you are already in position. At nightfall, when catfish start hunting, you watch your bite alarms from the terrace. Between sessions you return to the cottage for a hot coffee or a restorative nap without losing precious travel time. This proximity truly changes the fishing experience, allowing more short sessions and letting you seize activity windows that anglers staying farther away cannot exploit.
The Lot: a river made for fishing
The Lot is a major tributary of the Garonne that crosses south-west France for over 480 kilometres. At Aiguillon it flows with steady discharge and depths from 2 to 12 metres depending on the swim. The bottom mixes gravel pits, fine sand plateaux and dense weed beds that act as holding and feeding areas for fish. Water quality, regularly monitored, is excellent and supports diverse aquatic life. Common and mirror carp are well established, with fish over 25 kg. Catfish, present since the 1990s, thrive in the confluence pools and reach record sizes over 2 metres. Pike, zander, perch and black bass complete an exceptionally rich fishery.
A living environment between water and nature
Life by the river also means a calming natural setting every day. The enclosed 300 m² garden slopes gently to the banks of the Lot, with an open view of the river and no overlooking neighbours. Through the day you watch herons, kingfishers and egrets along the bank. In the evening, sunsets on the river are stunning, with golden reflections on the calm Lot. It is an environment that invites contemplation and a complete break—ideal for recharging while enjoying your passion.

Why choose our lodge?
Truly riverside fishing cottages are rare. Many places claim to be “near the river” when they are hundreds of metres or even kilometres away. At Gîte du Martin Pêcheur, the Lot literally borders the property. The private pontoon is set up for fishing with dedicated bivvy space, flat ground for rodpods and outdoor sockets to recharge alarms and bait boats. This setup lets you fish around the clock in optimal comfort.
The 140 m² cottage matches this exceptional location. Spacious and fully equipped, it sleeps up to 8 in 4 comfortable bedrooms. The kitchen lets you self-cater, and the bright living space overlooking the garden and river is a daily pleasure. The garden barbecue, plus canoe and paddle on request, complete an offer designed for lovers of nature and fishing. Hamid, an experienced angler and passionate host, is on hand to advise on the best spots and techniques for the season and conditions.
“The accommodation is really spacious, clean and has everything you need. The garden looks straight onto the Lot with no overlooking neighbours—just ducks and egrets. Hamid is a truly great host, very friendly; it was a wonderful meeting.”

FAQ | Riverside Fishing Cottage
Is the cottage really on the river?
Yes, the cottage garden runs down to the banks of the Lot. The private pontoon is about 30 metres from the front door. You reach the river on foot in under a minute, with no obstacles and no road to cross.
Can you fish directly from the pontoon?
Absolutely. The pontoon is set up for fishing: space for 2 to 3 simultaneous spots, flat ground for rodpods, a protected bivvy area and outdoor power sockets. You can cast straight from the pontoon into the Lot.
Is night fishing possible from the riverbank?
Yes, night fishing is allowed on our stretch of the Lot. The pontoon is right next to the cottage, so you can watch your rods and alarms with peace of mind. Discreet lighting is available on request.
Is there a flood risk by the river?
The cottage is in a non-flood zone, slightly above river level. In 20 years the property has never been affected by flooding. The garden and pontoon are designed to cope with seasonal variations in Lot levels.
Which species can you fish from the riverbank?
The Lot at Aiguillon holds a wide range of species: common and mirror carp (up to 25+ kg), wels catfish (up to 2 m+), pike, zander, perch and black bass. The variety of spots reachable from the pontoon lets you target different species by season.
