Predator fishing cottage on the Lot

Predator Fishing Cottage

Looking for a predator fishing cottage on a fish-rich river? The Lot is an outstanding river for predators. Pike, zander, perch and black bass share waters rich in structure and varied swims. Our predator fishing cottage in Aiguillon puts you at the heart of one of the best stretches in Lot-et-Garonne. The private pontoon lets you work the margins from the bank, while many spots reachable by boat or on foot along the Lot offer kilometres of water to explore.

The Lot between Villeneuve-sur-Lot and Aiguillon is regarded by local anglers as one of the best predator sectors in the region. The diversity of aquatic structure—wooded margins with submerged trees, dense weed beds, natural rock, pools 6 to 12 metres deep—creates countless ambush spots for predators. Having four prime predator species is a rare asset: you can target pike on hard lure in the morning, zander on drop-shot in the afternoon and black bass on topwater at dusk, all on the same stretch of river.

Four predator species, one spot

The richness of the Lot at Aiguillon lies in four predator species occupying complementary niches. Pike, lying up in weed and submerged wood, fall to hard lure, spinnerbait or live bait on margin swims. Zander, more discreet, use pools and current transitions, taking soft lures on vertical or drop-shot. Perch, often in aggressive shoals, show in rock piles and tail-waters, ready to hit anything that passes. Black bass, in calm bays and surface weed, give spectacular summer fights on topwater, with surface strikes you never forget.

Tackle and techniques for the Lot

The Lot suits every modern predator method. Spinning remains the most versatile, with a 2.10–2.40 m medium-action rod and a 2500–3000 reel spooled with 0.15 mm braid. A casting outfit completes the arsenal for snaggy spots under trees and heavy lures. Drop-shot, the finesse classic, is deadly on zander holding in pools. Vertical from a boat produces steady results on drops and breaks. Topwater, the most fun technique, fires up black bass in summer and sometimes pike early season. Live bait still works on static spots, especially wooded margins in winter.

A cottage at the heart of the predator water

Gîte du Martin Pêcheur sits in the middle of a vast predator stretch on the Lot. Upstream towards Villeneuve-sur-Lot, wooded margins and natural weirs hold pike and perch. Downstream towards the Garonne confluence, deep pools and side currents hold zander and predatory catfish. The cottage’s private pontoon accesses a productive margin where all four species are present. You can prospect many different spots without driving, simply by walking the banks.

Our advantages

Why choose our lodge?

Most fishing cottages focus on carp or coarse fishing. Few places in France offer such direct, varied access to quality predator fishing. The Lot at Aiguillon combines fish numbers, species diversity and aquatic structure in a preserved natural setting. Our cottage is the ideal base to explore that water, whether you fish from the pontoon, the banks or a boat.

The cottage comfortably sleeps up to 8, making it perfect for a group of anglers. The 4 bedrooms, equipped kitchen and large living space make for convivial evenings after sessions. The garden barbecue has become a ritual for many guests—a chance to relive the day by the river. Hamid can point you to the best spots for the season and water conditions.

The accommodation is really spacious, clean and has everything you need. The garden looks straight onto the Lot with no overlooking neighbours—just ducks and egrets. Hamid is a truly great host, very friendly; it was a wonderful meeting.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ | Predator Fishing Cottage

Which predator species can you fish on the Lot?

The Lot at Aiguillon holds four prime predators: pike, zander, perch and black bass. Each species uses specific spots, so you can vary targets within the same day.

Do you need a boat to fish for predators?

No, many productive spots are reachable on foot from the cottage and pontoon. A boat does open downstream pools and distant margins. Launch points are close to the cottage.

Is black bass really present in the Lot?

Yes, black bass is well established in the Lot at Aiguillon. It uses calm bays, surface weed and rocky margins. It is most active May to September, with an exceptional topwater season in summer.

What tackle do you recommend for predators?

A spinning outfit (2.10–2.40 m rod, 2500–3000 reel, 0.15 mm braid) covers 80% of situations. A casting outfit for big lures and snaggy spots is a plus. Use wire trace for pike and fluorocarbon for zander.

What is the best season for predators on the Lot?

Spring (March–May) is excellent for pre-spawn pike. Summer (June–August) is black bass and perch season. Autumn (October–November) is prime for zander and pike on deep spots.
