Catfish on the Lot
Catfish on the Lot at Aiguillon
The Lot is one of the most renowned rivers in south-west France for catfish fishing. This freshwater giant, which can exceed 2 metres and 80 kg, offers memorable fights. Our lodge, located directly on the banks of the Lot at Aiguillon, places you at the heart of the best areas to pursue this impressive predator. The confluence with the Garonne, in the immediate vicinity, concentrates a remarkable population of wels catfish.
The lower Lot between Aiguillon and the confluence with the Garonne brings together all the conditions for large catfish: deep water with holes of 6 to 12 metres, moderate current, an abundance of baitfish and favourable water temperature from May to October. Fishing pressure remains reasonable compared to large rivers, allowing specimens of 2 metres and more to thrive. Traditional techniques like clonk and vertical jigging are particularly effective here.

How to fish catfish on the Lot
The most effective techniques for catfish in our Aiguillon area.
Clonk fishing
The iconic catfish fishing technique. The clonk reproduces a sound that attracts catfish from the depths. Very effective drifting slowly over the deep holes of the Lot, especially in summer when the water is warm and catfish are active.
Vertical jigging
From a boat, directly above holes located with a fish finder. A soft lure or live bait is presented just above the bottom. This technique allows you to precisely target large fish stationed in the holes.
Live bait fishing
From fixed positions on the bank or pontoon, with a live bait (crucian carp, roach) presented on the bottom or mid-water. Heavy tackle is essential. Effective day and night, ideal for long sessions.
Lure fishing
Casting or spinning with large soft lures (15 to 25 cm shads). An active technique that requires exploring holes and drop-offs. The Lot offers numerous spots suited to this approach.
